CAN0595 IMG 6014 512In recent years some of the historic Canadian 5.5s have been rediscovered and put through a process of restoration. The existence of the boats is hereunder stated by their sailnumbers, others are being searched for. The boat shown, 5.5 CAN 22 "Nantoria", was built on the famous Swedish Kungsörs Båtvarv AB and then imported to Canada in 1962. She is now in the hands of John Lister, who has brought her back to prestine condition. The other boat shown is 5.5 CAN 79 "O 'Kelly", one of the sisterboats built by MELGES boatworks to a Muir/Lexcen design.

Interested 5.5m owners and sailors are invited to contact John Lister with information about other 5.5m boats located in Canada, so that information can be compiled and added to the 5.5m Class Association database.

In 2014 John initiated the 5.5m North American Regatta, seeing 5.5m boats from Canada and the USA racing again, at the MBSC, Midland, Lake Huron, Ontario. Soon followed by a 5.5m Fall Regatta, in mid September.

In June 2017 the MBSC saw the first European participants joining.

This has been a start to be triggering interest in the Evolution and Modern 5.5m boat divisions as well. The first Evolution boat (CAN 79) has been added to the fleet, as well as a Columbia 5.5, recently.

The boats:

Classic 5.5 CAN 2, CAN 3, CAN 7, CAN 22, CAN 31

Evolution 5.5 CAN 79

5.5 Columbia 30
