Norwegian designers have from the very beginning of the Class accompanied its development. Names like Jan H. Linge, Bjarne Aas and Sigurd Herbern have amongst others in Norway contributed to great extent, for the diversity in 5.5mR designs, over the years.
The Royal Norwegian family has been active, with both King Olav sailing many "Norna" 5.5mR boats as well as Crownprince and then King Harald racing many 5.5mR by the name "Fram". Olympic participation included and Hankoe island being many times a preferred regatta location for teh 5.5's as well.
Several Scandinavian Gold-Cup and World Championship titles have been won, with the Norwegian flag flying in the harbours of the hosting World Championship Clubs.
