100Paul Elvstroem, the 'Great Dane' , the winner of four consecutive Olympic gold medals and 11 world Championships in seven different classes has died earlier this month.

At our World Championship this year we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of his winning the 1966 Worlds in Copenhagen.

His crew member Paul Mik Meyer did represent the winning crew at our dinner held during the Worlds.

Our sympathy goes to his four daughters and our Danish sailing friends.

We all have lost an exceptional and innovative sailor and a good friend. He will particularly be remembered for his commitment to fair play best summarized in his words:

"If in the process of winning, you have lost the respect of your competitors, then you have won nothing."

He will be sorely missed.
